I am thankful
Tuesday, October 28, 2008 5:47 PM

I am really tired of people complaining that health care in this country is not free.

boo hoo.

I can't imagine what it is like to live in a country where you can't see a doctor when something is wrong. It must be so scary. Scary to know that you could possibly die from something that could be prevented or treated if only you had those things available to you. We are so lucky in the U.S. (okay and Canada) to have hospital's around every corner, doctors who are dedicated to healing sick people, and basic knowledge of prevention of some diseases and illnesses.

If cancer could be prevented, we wouldn't raise billions of dollars in fundraisers to find a cure for it; we would spend that money preventing it. AIDS is a disease that can often times be prevented (unless it is passed down genetically to children). The number of people with AIDS in the world should not be as high as it is, since contracting is usually by ignorance or accident.

Be thankful for how blessed you are to live in America, sometimes we get so down on the state of this country, but the truth is no matter how hard things get, we're still better off than most of the world. You may have to pay for your health care, but at least you have some available to you.

Most of us can't make a huge difference in health care around the world, but almost everyone can afford to sponsor a child (or give a gift) through World Vision (It is only $40 a month). No one can carry the entire worlds' economic issues on their back, but each of us can make sure we are contributing our part, however that may be.

Makenna SARA-Marie

Makenna will be 3 years old on Tuesday. I'm very sad I can't be there on her birthday. But in honor of all the time I have spent watching this little girl grow up, I'm going to share my favorite video with you. (I may have posted this video years ago when I first made it, but I can't remember)

Basically Makenna is eating goldfish, trying to feed me some, and then she spits one out of her mouth onto her shirt and tries to feed it to me, while I gag. I wish I could remember how old she is here, any ideas mom?

Happy birthday Makkenners!

Well, I am on Day 14 of my "Acne diet" (see previous post) and I am sad to report that my acne has not improved. I have to admit, I am pretty discouraged. The fact is, I have what they call "Severe Acne", which means normal (non-prescription) acne treatments don't work for me. Which means I have to see a dermatologist so they can prescribe a stronger anti-bacterial treatment. The closest one to where I live is 4 hours away and seeing the dermatologist isn't in our medical benefits. Bummer.

Things I am missing as of today
Friday, October 17, 2008 9:39 PM
For some reason when I was listening to John Mayer tonight his guitar playing reminded me of Shane & Shane, a Christian band I used to listen to a lot a couple of years ago. I still have one of their CD's (and live DVD!), but they have put out a lot of new music since then. I don't know why I ever stopped listening to them, I stopped listening to most Christian music actually (except Hillsong United), but I have been missing it lately.

I also miss leading worship. Thanks goes out to Justin for getting me up on stage for the first time and giving me the confidence to lead a band. Our church here in Port Alice doesn't have a worship band, and this week Matt and I have been talking and praying about leading a little worship when he has Sunday's off. I think it would be very uplifting for the church and would give people the opportunity to worship more freely since they wouldn't have to worry about singing over the CD (I worry about that all the time).

Anyways, I just had a little blast from the past tonight and it was fun. Hey Molly, do you remember Krystal Meyers? You should check out her website. She's 20 now!

Proactiv didn't work for me
Saturday, October 11, 2008 10:14 PM
This is for anyone who has constant problems with acne (aka you've suffered your whole pathetic life). I've been using Proactiv for the last 6 months and it has not worked. Someone has got to get a bad review out there onto the internet. When I was deciding whether or not to start using Proactiv I looked for any bad reviews and I found none, so I was convinced it was the miracle product I had been searching for. But six months later I find myself again frustrated about all the money I have spent and all the pathetic results.

So the past few days I have been doing my own "research" compiling information about acne treatments from several different sources (mostly different magazines and websites).

So tomorrow I am starting a new "clear skin diet experiment" (this is about where this blog makes me look lame).

Here is a list of things I am not eating for the next 30 days:

-Dairy
-Excess sugar (this isn't a huge problem for me)
-Refined carbs (white bread, pasta, etc.)

And a list of the things I am filling my diet with:

-Omega 3 (supplement form)
-Lean protein (fish, chicken, beans, etc.)
-Vitamin C rich fruits/vegetables
-Whole wheat and whole grains
-Dark green, red, and orange vegetables
-Water

I know, you may be thinking 'Well that's what you should be eating/not eating on a normal basis!' But two motivators are definitely better than one.

So the next 30 days are going to be an experiment, I might blog on any big results or breakthroughs, or maybe at the end I will report that nothing will happen.

I also ordered Avon's Clearskin Professional Acne Treatment System to replace the Proactiv I am currently using. I will definitely post the results on that just in case anyone else is looking for an acne treatment that works (or is trying to avoid one's that don't).

"hey everyone come see how good I look"

Yesterday Matt and I went down to the water here in Port Alice, there is a park and a playground near the marina. It is such a beautiful setting and I have been wanting to take pictures there for a long time. Here are a few of my favorites. My husband is so attractive.

My least favorite thing about Canada is...

Dairy products.

The average sized ice cream container is $8.00. For one of those little containers!!! $8.00!!!!!

And you can't by a block of cheese for less than $10.00. It makes me NOT want to go to the grocery store.

Just because I haven't blogged in a while...
