hardcore scene [you might not understand]
Sunday, November 04, 2007 2:57 PM

this is my buddy jon huber, in a band called I Declare War. Last night I went with my friend Josh M. to go see them play at Club Impact [really, could you pick a more lame name for a club?] I was really blown away by the show. There's something that people dont really know about the hardcore scene: everyone's really great.

It goes beyond people being "nice" and "respectful", which they are, it's about sending a message. Most of the people there last night were StraightEdge, meaning that they have set a number of standards for their lives. Some of those include not smoking, drinking, doing drugs, or having sex. It varies for each person though. Some of the people are even in a straightedge gang that actually beats up drug dealers, etc.

When Never Looking Back started one of their songs, their singer explained how the song was about what we were all doing last night. Listening to the music, learning the lyrics, feeling something, and creating a movement. When they guy was talking I was expecting to hear a few "boo"'s but people actually started clapping. all these guys, hardcore dancing with huge plugs and tattoos were clapping for a guy with a microphone, saying something special.

The place was pretty full, but for some reason it felt like we were all at a small party, everyone having fun together.

I know it's hard for some people to really understand what this scene is about, Im still getting to know it too, but it's probably a lot different than the preceptions you probably have; it's almost similar to a religion, their higher power being the music.

I havent met someone as nice and genuine as Jon in a long time, and when I left he told me to give my family love for him. Are we ready for this group to rise up and start changing the way people act? Changing the way people percieve music lovers and musicians? I hope so.
